In 1925, Alfred Vedam Thomas demolished a myth. He proved that it was not just the British who could manage plantations by starting a 300 acre tea plantation at Pasuparai, Tamil Nadu. Katary Estate and Sutton Estate are part of the AVT Group .The estates are located in the Nilgiris District in Tamil nadu. The Nilgiris are one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in the western ghats of India and the geographic origin of NILGIRI tea known for its misty flavour. The estate are an elevation of 1826 meters and has an area of 569.42 Hectares yielding around 19,00,000.00 Kg / Annum.
Both the Estates are Rainforest Alliance Certified , and follows the principles of sustainable Agriculture in the tea gardens.
